You’ve done your fashion homework and satisfied your love of shoes by purchasing several pairs of high heels for dressy occasions, flats for afternoon lunches, athletic footwear for your daily workouts and boots for inclement weather. If you’re truly passionate about footwear, your shoe count may be in the hundreds. Knowing how to properly store your shoes will preserve the life of your footwear and bring proper organization to your closet.

Deciding on a Shoe Storage Strategy

Many people who love their shoes are also concerned about storing them. When you run out of space and stack your shoes on top of one another, you increase the risk of shoe damage. The sharp heels of one shoe may dig into the leather covering of another, leaving marks and dents.

To prevent this problem, examine your shoe storage space and organize your closet. If your closet is small, you may need to take advantage of other spaces in your home. For example, identify doors in the home that can accommodate a hanging shoe rack. Bathroom doors or unused rooms may be good options. You might also take advantage of space in your garage to store out-of-season shoes inside shoe boxes. Such boxes may also fit under your bed.

Finding the Right Shoe Storage Devices

Depending on how much space you have for your shoes, you’ll want to purchase shoe shelves, racks and boxes. For best options, visit stores that primarily sell organizational products. You’ll find more varieties from which to choose. Be sure to measure the space in your closet, under your bed and in other locations before making a purchase.

A Shoe Shopping Excuse

If you love shoes, you likely have a closet full of them. You have probably neatly organized them by style and color. You surely have more pairs of heels than there are days of the week. Did you ever stop to think about what high heels you actually ‘must have?’ The truth is, there are several pairs of high heels that every wardrobe should contain.

The first is, of course, the ever stylish black heel. These go well with just about anything. Be sure you have at least one black heel in your wardrobe that is current and in good condition – it should be your go to heel.

The second is a the funky sandal. From silvery and strappy to wrap up the legs, a fun pair of heeled sandals should be included in everyone shoe box. They are ideal for causal weather or a great way to ‘fun’ up a more staid dress or outfit.

Finally, it’s a good idea to include a light colored shoe in your bag of tricks. A cream or light beige heel will serve you well in the warmer months when muted tones are popular.

Never let it be said that three pairs of heels are enough – but these three heels should form the basis of any shoe wardrobe – plus they offer a good excuse for regular shoe shopping.

The Appropriate Shoes for Any Weather

Every woman wants to look her best but the weather does not always agree with her plans to match the perfect shoes to her new outfits. No need to change though, there are other options that are weather friendly.

Anyone who lives somewhere where it snows, knows the value of a good pair of boots. However, there is not need to wear those atrocious puffy snow boots with your favorite outfit. Today there are thousands of cute boots that are more than acceptable for snowy weather. As many people know, a tight fitting boot can be worn under a great pair of slacks or dark wash denim and still be totally appropriate, or if you are more fashion forward you could invest in a pair of boots that are stylish enough to be worn over a pair of leggings or skinny jeans. You also have the option to wear a cute ankle boot. An ankle boot will keep snow out of your shoes while still allowing you to look professional and stylish.

Another issues that is weather related is what to do in extremely hot weather. There is nothing worse than having to be at formal event when the weather is devilishly hot. And, while no woman wants to admit it, our feet sweat which can be not only uncomfortable but also smelly. Never fear, just because the event if formal does not mean that you have to wear closed toe shoes. You can invest in a pair of peep toe pumps which will let in a little air flow in. It would also be appropriate for you to wear a high heeled shoe that has designer cut outs. Remember that the shoes should look dressy and match the event, so you can’t wear flip flops but you can wear stylish shoes that allow for some air movement.

Fashionable Shoe Switches

Every woman knoes the pain of having to walk around all day in a pair of really high heels or having your feet ache after a night of dancing. There are also cases where the weather would dictate you wear those terribly unfashionable snow boots when you would rather wear some cute pumps. However, there are great ways to pull some fashionable switches that save your feet.

If you started out the evening wearing a great pair of five-inch heels and half way through your feet hurt some much you cannot even imagine walking to your car to go home, then you need to invest in a pair of great ballet flats. Ballet flats are an adorable alternative to your heels. They are small enough that they can slip in your bag, and half way through a long night of dancing, or a rough day at the office, you can slip out of your heels and into your

When to Wear Flats and Heels

There is a time and place to wear everything including those dangerously high heels that you love. However, if you are not wearing the right shoes to the right event you can end up looking inappropriately dressed and not put together.

If you have been invited to black tie event then flats are pretty much out of the question. Heels will always be considered more formal and should be worn for special occasions. If you are against wearing heels or have a previous injury that keeps you from wearing super high stilettos, then you might want to consider wearing a kitten heel. A kitten heel is a shoe that has a teeny tiny heel. Kitten shoes are a great to wear because they are not very high but still offer enough of heel for you to look formal. You could invest in a pair of wedges, but wedges tend to be slightly less formal and may not be appropriate for the event. If you are suffering from a knee or ankle injury and cannot avoid wearing flats, then you need to consider the type of gown that you will be wearing. If the event is black tie, it would be appropriate for you wear a floor length gown. If you are wearing a floor length gown you can get away with wearing flats.

If you have been invited to a less formal or day event, heels are not always appropriate. Heels can be worn nearly everywhere, but you need to consider the heels that you are wearing. If you are invited to a lunch, your black strappy heels are probably not appropriate. In this case, wedges are more appropriate. Wedges tend to be less formal than heels but still give you the options of wearing heels. A cut flat sandle or ballet flat would be perfect for a less formal event. Heels may even be appropriate if they are the right style. If would be slightly inappropriate for you to wear black to a daytime event, so a more neutral or fun flirty tone of shoe would be more acceptable.
